Pulitzer Prize 2020:

The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine and online journalism, literature, and musical composition in the United States.

Three photojournalists from Jammu & Kashmir have won Pulitzer Prize 2020 in feature photography. These include Yasin Dar, Mukhtar Khan, and Channi Anand.

Pulitzer Prize was established in 1917 and has been awarded for the achievements in magazines, newspapers, online journalism, musical composition, and literature.

The award was established by the provisions in the will of Joseph Pulitzer, he made his fortune as a newspaper publisher.

The award is administered by Columbia University.

Pulitzer prize is awarded yearly in 21 categories. Each winner receives a cash award and a certificate. A gold medal is awarded to the winner in Public Service Category.

 

Bishnu Sendra Parva:

Bishnu Sendra Parva is an annual hunting festival observed by tribals of Jharkhand and the neighbouring Odisha and West Bengal. This year, Adivasis observed the centuries-old festival without leaving their houses as Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal continued with a complete lockdown across the state. With the lockdown continuing, many tribal hunters could not reach the forests to observe the festival.

 

Operation Samudra Setu:

Indian Navy has launched Operation Samudra Setu – meaning Sea Bridge, as a part of national effort to repatriate Indian citizens from overseas. A total of 698 Indian nationals stranded in the Maldives due to the Covid-19 linked international travel restrictions were evacuated on Friday from the scenic island nation on an Indian Navy warship. The INS Jalashwa, the Navy’s amphibious warship, reached Male on Thursday to undertake the massive repatriation mission named ‘Operation Samudra Setu’.

 

Surakshit Dada-Dadi & Nana-Nani Abhiyan:

Surakshit Dada-Dadi, Nana-Nani Abhiyaan is a collaborative effort between NITI Aayog, Piramal Foundation, and 25 Aspirational Districts across Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, MP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan & UP to ensure the well-being of 2.9 million Senior Citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. It focuses on behaviour change, access to services, early detection & tracking of COVID19 symptoms.

 

GARUD portal:

GARUD (Government Authorisation for Relief Using Drones) portal aims to provide fast track conditional exemptions to Government agencies for COVID-19 related drone operations until further orders. DGCA launches ‘GARUD’ portal to fast-track exemptions of coronavirus-related drone operations.

  • The portal will help state-owned entities in seeking exemption from central government for coronavirus related drone operations.
  • This will also help in addressing the challenges posed by COVID-19 and will remain in force until further orders.
  • Drone operations are faster, longer and safer than manual spraying by workers who can become potential carriers of COVID-19.
  • Drones can reach heights which are not possible through manual spraying.
